- Spanish & Culture classes from 9 am -1 pm or 2 pm - 6 pm

- Orientation for new students from 3:00 pm to 4:30 pm

General introduction: the community and its physical surroundings.  Communications, banking & money. Cultural behavior. Address cultural norms and traditions, communication styles. Home-stays: discuss specific cultural norms and practical issues - Country-specific: health & safety concerns. Travel Tips. 

 

- Group Weekly Reflection Meetings from 6:15 pm to 7:15 pm 

How does travelling make me feel? What kind of traveler am I? What surprised you in this experience, and why?  What do you want to learn more about, and why?  Describe country, city, town, local community, etc.

A chilling testament to the excesses of Argentina’s military dictatorship, this museum occupies a space formerly used as a clandestine center for detention and torture. It was operated by the dreaded Department of Intelligence (D2), a special division dedicated to the kidnapping and torture of suspected political agitators and the ‘reassignment’ of their children to less politically suspect families.

Reflection helps students critically process what they experiencing, can help encourage identity development in relation to Argentina context, provides an important outlet when students encounter challenging situations and helps the blending of academic content with personal experience.

Social intelligence is the capacity to communicate and form relationships with empathy and assertiveness. It comes from knowing yourself and exercising proper emotional management. We can say it is closely linked to emotional intelligence, but it is not exactly the same thing.

Intercultural communication is the study and practice of communication across cultural contexts. It applies equally to domestic cultural differences such as ethnicity and gender and to international differences such as those associated with nationality or world region. Communication is much more than a simple transmission of information: it is the mutual creation of meaning. Information is not, in itself, meaningful; it is only when information is intended and interpreted in some way that it attains significance.

Explore the history and culture of the Tango genre of music, dance, and text from the late 19th century to the present and engage in a deconstruction of its complex myths and popular stereotypes. In search of historical insight into the tensions of contemporary Argentine identity, culture, and society, you will listen to Tango music, analyze lyrics and personally dance the Tango.

For Argentines, a picada is a reason to meet. We have them in the garden, in the living room or a bar for something more substantial, with friends, talking and munching on a delicious snack.

 

But for anyone who has not had a picada in Argentina, there are three things to know. 1) It must not be rushed. 2) On the table there will be all kinds of meats and cheeses 3) Wine is very important, red Malbec, white Torrontés or Bonarda.
